PLACK GROUP SHORT VIDEO SERIES

Do You or Someone on Your Leadership Team Have ADHD?

A while back, my friend Mark P. Fisher recommended a book that has really stuck with me – “ADHD is Awesome: A Guide to (Mostly) Thriving with ADHD” by Penn Holderness.

Penn, who runs a creative business with his wife Kim, shares honest stories about how he’s learned to work with his attention differences, not against them. Together, they’ve built a thriving business and family life by recognizing how their minds complement each other; structure meeting creativity, energy meeting focus.

The book is filled with practical insights and self-awareness tools, including a non-medical checklist that helps you spot ADHD tendencies and reflect on how they show up in daily life. It’s an eye-opening exercise, even for those who’ve never been formally diagnosed.

What makes this book stand out is its tone. It’s not clinical or overly technical; it’s human, funny, and deeply relatable. Penn and his co-author don’t just describe ADHD; they celebrate it, showing how the same traits that cause frustration can also fuel innovation and success.

If you decide to read it, I recommend the paper copy. The layout is visually engaging and perfect for readers who prefer structure and flow.

For leaders, there’s a powerful takeaway here: understanding how different brains operate can dramatically improve communication, empathy, and collaboration. When we embrace those differences, whether in our teams or our families, we unlock potential that traditional systems often overlook.
